Our Verdict

Sync data across your own computers with a personal P2P network.

If cloud-based storage services are the most popular kids in town, GoodSync is the sympathetic rebel. Macpilot 11 0 7 download free. This file synchronization and backup service bucks the cloud-based trend, focusing on computer-to-computer syncing instead. And anyone who relies on cloud storage will be relieved to know that GoodSync just might have you covered there, too.

Using GoodSync does present something of a learning curve: Once you install the software on your computer and sign up for an account, it simply asks you to create a job.

And once you do create that job, you're not going to see a whole lot of guidance getting it started. GoodSync's all-business interface, which tells you to select a left sync folder and a right destination folder, without really explaining the nature of either one, will likely overwhelm those who aren't at least a little bit tech-savvy. If you fall into that category, I'd highly recommend checking out GoodSync's online tutorial, which offers plenty of tips for getting started with the software.

From there, GoodSync becomes a breeze to use. You can use it to sync data between two or more computers on your network, which makes it easy to stay on top of all the photos, videos, music, and more that you may have accumulated over the years. (All of the computers to which you want to connect will need to be running GoodSync Connect, which is easy to install.) Once you select the source and destination folders, GoodSync analyzes and compares the content in each of them, and then suggests which information should be synced.

In addition to other computers, GoodSync also lets you sync information to some cloud-based storage services, such as Google Drive and Amazon S3, which is a nice touch for users who haven't forsaken cloud storage entirely.

Getting started with GoodSync can be a bit of a challenge. But once you get started with this backup and synchronization tool, you're likely to be impressed with its range of features and just how easy it actually is to use. Nuke 8 essential training.

Interface

After installing GoodSync, we run the program and are immediately prompted to create our first job. We enter in a Job Name and can select what job type we want (Synchronize or Backup). For our example, we want to test out the synchronize process so we select this option. Click OK to continue.

The GoodSync main interface opens with the Job (Reports 2013) tabbed. We now need to select the left folder we want to sync across.

In the ‘Left Folder' dialog box, we are presented with a list of places you can sync files or folders. For our example, we select the Projects folder located on the Computer.

We then select ‘Browse' on the right hand side and navigate where we want to sync the contents to. This time it is to a folder on Google Drive. We select ‘Go'.

We follow the relevant prompts to allow access (as from the example shown below).

After the access request is completed, the following message should appear in your web browser.

We then select the ‘Reports' folder in our Google Drive and click OK.

On the GoodSync explorer interface, the folders have now been selected and we have to analyse if the connection is fine before attempting to sync.

Since the analysis showed no issues, we can now perform the sync operation. Select ‘Sync'.

The files from your left folder (Projects) have successfully synched to your Reports folder on Google Drive. Excellent!

Set the sync time

What happens if we do not want to have to manually sync the files every time? Well, we can set it to auto! Select the ‘Auto' button on the bottom of the interface.

Version

We decided to make the files ‘sync' everytime we make changes to a document and to have it sync periodically every six hours. We click Save to continue.

Done!

Support

GoodSync have an entire section on their website devoted to Support. There is a variety of information that can really be of help for people who are not computer professionals. This includes a user manual, tutorials (accompanied with detailed screen shots) and Frequently Asked Questions. If none of these options contain the assistance you require, you can submit a question to the developer's directly on their website or even contact them directly by phone at one of their business locations (US and Japan). Although this may be exceptionally pricey if you do not reside within these countries.

Cost

GoodSync is free to trial for 30 days for Windows, Mac and Android. For Windows, the full featured product costs US$29.95.

Final Thoughts

GoodSync is a reliable application for people who prefer to sync their files across multiple devices but want it done with minimal interaction. Once the job is set up to sync on a schedule, then no further configuration is required. Although some computer rookies may have difficulty when first configuring the software, it is relatively easy to master. We advise that if you are experiencing problems to check out the Support section on GoodSync's website. The trial for GoodSync is available for download from here.
